FRANK AND ADDISON'S DISEASE

Frank has Addison's disease, also known hypoadrenocorticism or adrenal insufficiency.

It all started when Frank was about 9 months old, suddenly he was tired, didn't eat, he hrow up few times. This happened during the weekend and on monday we took him to the vet. We thought it's propably just a virus, or maybe he has something in his tummy. Luckily the vet said we could take a blood test which shows wide blood count, so you can see that his liver and kidneys are working ok...

You could tell from the test results that something wasn't right. He's natrium level was low, and potassium was high, and also he's calcium and phosphorus levels were up. The vet said immediately that this good mean he has addison's disease. Frank stayid in the clinic for the day to get some fluids and on the same day they took the ACTH test to be sure. In the evening Frank came home for the night and in the morning we took him back to the clinic to get some more fluids.

On tuesday afternoon the call came from the vet, the test result was back and it was addison's disease. They took another blood test on tuesday and levels were back to normal and Frank was doing much better and he didn't need any more fluids. They started he's medication to treat the disease immediately.

At the moment Frank is doing fine! They take blood tests regularly from him, to be sure that his doing fine. At the moment Frank is medicated with Florinef and some times he gets cortisone, when something extraspecial is about to happen, just in case. If a dog gets sick from Addison's, it's not the end of the world, the dog CAN live a happy and normal life.
